Imagine a flesh-tearing Raptor Dinosaur, three times bigger than your car, covered in feathers... Sounds weird - but the Yutyrannus huali, is a newly discovered ancestor of Tyrannosaurus rex, and it was covered from head to tail in downy feathers.
It looked more like a giant TURKEY or CHICKEN!
At 30 feet long and weighing 3,000 pounds, Y. huali wasn’t so large as T. rex, which came 60 million years later, but it’s the largest feathered tyrannosaur yet found... THE ENIGMA CHANNEL has been interviewing scientists who are at logger-heads with eachother over the origin of common BIRDS. Apparently, the over-simplified 'storybook at bedtime' documentary TV shows trundled out on mums'n'dads old fashioned TV networks have been leading viewers astray...
The theory that birds evolved from tree dwelling reptiles (not dinosaurs) is called arboreal theory. The second more recent theory is called the cursorial theory in which it is believed birds evolved from running dinosaurs (theropods).
These two theories are hotly debated and have lead to a great controversy in establishing how feathered flight evolved. Dr. Storrs Olson, curator of birds at the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution in the USA, writes of the opposing theories [namely the cursorial theory] in a letter he wrote to the National Geographic Society, “The idea of feathered dinosaurs and the theropod origin of birds is being actively promulgated by a cadre of zealous scientists acting in concert with certain editors at Nature magazine and National Geographic who themselves have become outspoken and highly biased proselytizers of the faith. Truth and careful scientific weighing of evidence have been among the first casualties in their program, which is now fast becoming one of the grander scientific hoaxes of our age—the paleontological equivalent of cold fusion.”
The discovery provides “direct evidence for the presence of extensively feathered gigantic dinosaurs,” wrote paleontologists led by Xing Xu of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in their description of the new dinosaur... 'Instead of giant lizards, they were basically weird birds.... With a Latin and Mandarin name translating to “beautiful feathered tyrant”'...
Yutyrannus huali was found in the Yixian Formation, a fossil deposit in northeastern China that over the last two decades has yielded dozens of dinosaur skeletons so finely preserved that it’s possible to discern feather-like structures on their skin. T-rex has already had its genome cloned - and we're waiting now for the next chapter in a real-life Jurassic Park nightmare as some clever idiot clones dino genes with a crocodile egg!
